This glossary sets out the meaning of words or phrases commonly used in copyright law.

Performance
In relation to performers' rights:

(a) a dramatic performance, such as a dance, mime or puppet show;
(b) a musical performance;
(c) a reading or recitation of a literary work, such as a poem or part of a novel;
(d) performance of a variety act or similar.

It does not include the reading or delivery of a news item, performance of a sporting activity, or any audience participation.
