Copyright in New Zealand

Copyright is part of an area of the law known as intellectual property (IP). See the menu bar to the left to find out more about copyright in New Zealand.

Other types of intellectual property include patents, trade marks and designs. The government department responsible for intellectual property policy, including copyright, is the Ministry of Economic Development.

The Copyright Council of New Zealand was incorporated in 1983 as a non-profit society to provide copyright and cultural based industries with a range of services including an interface with Government. It currently has 22 members representing a wide spectrum of copyright creators and owners.
