Items . Revised Google Settlement

10-10-2009
A federal judge in New York has set a deadline of 9 November for submission of a revised Google Settlement Agreement that would be acceptable to the Justice Department.
Google and lawyers for authors and publishers had been working to negotiate a new Settlement Agreement by early November following heavy criticism of the original agreement. The original agreement raised "significant legal concerns" and may have breached federal antitrust law. The head of the US Copyright Office had indicated that parts of the agreement were "fundamentally at odds with the law".
No deadlines had been set for objections to the new agreement. However, it was likely that they would be restricted to new provisions in the agreement. It is likely that core features of the agreement would remain intact.
