Items . Reporting Copyright Infringement

07-04-2010
The Copyright Council of New Zealand, as a membership-based organisation, represents a wide spectrum of copyright creators and owners. Our aim is to protect, preserve, develop and promote the rights of copyright creators and owners to New Zealand's best, long-term advantage.
Members of the public often try to “report” copyright infringements to the Council. However, we have no responsibility for or power to investigate copyright breaches. We don’t enforce copyright laws. Generally, it is up to the copyright owner to take steps to deal with infringements.
Some industry organisations, including members of the Copyright Council, are interested in being notified of infringements of copyright in their members’ material. You can go to our Membership page for a full list of Copyright Council members.
Music Piracy
A new website, Report Music Piracy (http://www.reportmusicpiracy.co.nz) has been set up so that the public can easily report information regarding music piracy in New Zealand. Examples of music piracy are the sale of counterfiet CDs and illegal online music sites. Information can be submitted via the website anonymously.
The website also provides information about safely buying music online and about how you can identify pirate CDs.
